
June 26, 2009 - Checking Patient Eligibility

SuzyDENTAL users can now check the current status of a patient's insurance eligibility.
An internet connection is required for the computer from which the request is being made.
While a permanent internet connection works best, this feature can be used from a dial up connection.
To use this feature click on the "Ins" box on the lower left side of the patient information screen.
An insurance information screen will now appear. To check on a patient's primary insurance, click the
"Check Primary Eligibility" button.
Suzy will now contact the primary insurance company over the internet. This may take 20-30 seconds,
so please be patient. While this is occurring the following screen will be displayed:
If the eligibility request is successful your internet browser will open showing the results of
the request. In the example below very detailed information was returned, this may not
always be the case. In some cases you will only see verification of the patient's
insurance or that they are not insured.
When you are finished examining the results you can just close the internet browser window.
You can of course also print the results as you would any other page you display using your internet browser.
You will then be back at the main insurance page.
All requests are saved. To see a previous request, click on "View Patient Previous Requests".
A window will open showing all previous requests for that person.
To see a previous request you need to double click on that request, which will display the request
in the same manner as when it was originally received.&bsp; Click on the "Done" button to return
to the main insurance window.
To see how many successful requests have been made for the current month click on the "Monthly Counter"
button on the bottom left of the main insurance screen. A small window will open showing the
total number of requests.
Unsuccessful requests do not count towards your monthly quota. These would include requests
that did not complete due to a computer problem or an invalid payer id.
System Errors:
"The Patient Eligibility System is temporarily unavailable."
We are upgrading our system and have temporaily suspended eligibility requests.
"Your system is not configured to Check Patient Eligibility."
Your practice is not set up for checking eligibility or there is something wrong with your setup.
Contact Suzy Support.
"The clearinghouse is not responding. Please try again later."
Suzy will terminate waiting for a response if nothing is received within 37 seconds of
sending the eligibility request. This may occur if there is lots of internet
traffic or the insurance company or clearinghouse is slow in responding. Wait
a few minutes and retry the request.
Invalid patient id's, group numbers, tax id's, etc., are not considered errors. It is your
responsibility to be sure all your patient and practice information is all entered correctly
in Suzy.
