There are a few scenarios that may cause an action to oversample, where the platform will trim excess respondents. For almost all scenarios, the platform will trim out the last respondents to enter your action. The exception to this rule is in the case of an action with multiple non-interlocked quotas.
Trimming for actions with multiple non-interlocked quotas
When an action closes with multiple non-interlocked quotas (example: a non-interlocked quota for gender and a non-interlocked quota for region), the platform will trim respondents depending on need.
Scenario 1: If there are excess respondents in at least one subgroup of all quota groups, respondents that don’t count toward any underfilled or filled group will be trimmed.
Example: Imagine you have an action with a non-interlocked quota for gender and a non-interlocked quota for region, where there are excess female respondents and excess northeast respondents. In this case, only northeast females would be trimmed.
Scenario 2: If there are no excess respondents in at least one of your quota groups, whether it’s underfilled or perfectly filled, no respondents will be trimmed.
Example: Imagine you have an action with a non-interlocked quota for gender and a non-interlocked quota for region, where there is an excess of female respondents, but all region subgroups are underfilled. In this case, no female respondents would be trimmed, as they’re needed for the region subgroups.
