Once an action is live, there are certain things you can change and certain things you cannot change. On a live action, you’re able to pause your action to edit your sample size, previous action targeting, quotas, gender splits, demographic, panel, segment and saved audience targeting. You can also pause your action to edit in-step logic, as well as the logic for any existing Auto-Assign groups. You can also pause your action to edit the internal survey label, internal survey description, and internal research type.
Pausing actions: You can pause actions at any point if needed. Once an action is paused, you can simply leave it paused to not allow for more responses, or you can selectively edit some components of your action, including sample size, previous action targeting, quotas, gender splits, demographic targeting, panel targeting, segment targeting, saved audience targeting, Auto-Assign logic, and in-step logic. You can also edit the internal survey label, internal survey description, and internal research type for actions after an action is paused. You can also edit email notifications once an action is paused.
- To pause an action, click into the action’s details page and click the dropdown menu labeled “Update Status.”
- In the dropdown choose “Pause Survey.”
- You’ll see a confirmation that your action has been successfully paused. If you need to make edits to your paused survey, you can now click into the necessary pages to make your changes.
- To resume a paused survey, you can do this from either the details page or from the Review page:
- To resume a paused survey from the details page, click the dropdown menu labeled “Update Status” and choose “Resume Survey.”
- If you made edits to your action, you can resume a paused action from the Review Page using the purple “Resume Survey” button on the right.
Sample size: You can increase or decrease your sample size as needed, as long as your new desired sample size is within the minimum and maximum sample size range for that action type. All action types have a designated maximum sample size, varying from 1000 respondents to 15000 respondents. One action type, MaxDiff, has a minimum sample size which is automatically set based on the number of attributes you’re testing.
If you adjust the sample size for an action that has quotas, the platform will automatically adjust to meet the new quota amounts.
- To edit the sample size for an action, click into the details page and click Edit.
- In the pop-up, choose “Pause and Continue.” This will pause your action to allow you to make your changes.
- In the Audience page, adjust your response cap as needed.
- Click “Save and Continue.”
- Click into the Review page and click the purple “Resume Survey” button on the right.
Previous action targeting: You can edit or remove your previous action targeting as needed. Any responses gathered before your edit will remain in your data, so these changes will only apply to any new respondents. However, you can always remove those respondents using the Respondent Removal feature and those respondents will be backfilled. If your action has quotas based on previous action targeting, you would have to remove the quota first before editing your previous action targeting.
- To edit the previous action targeting for an action, click into the details page and click Edit.
- In the pop-up, choose “Pause and Continue.” This will pause your action to allow you to make your changes.
- In the Audience page, click the Previous Action button and make any necessary changes. Click save to close out the window.
- Click “Save and Continue.”
- Click into the Review page and click the purple “Resume Survey” button on the right.
Quotas: While you cannot add new quotas to a live survey, you can edit any existing quotas on a live survey. If needed, you can also delete any existing quotas from a live survey at any point. Note: once a quota is deleted, you can't add any new quotas. Note: If you have multiple quotas on an action and you need to delete a quota, you must delete all quotas. At this time, you cannot delete some quotas and keep others.
When editing quota percentages, the platform will automatically adjust to meet the new quota amounts. When deleting a quota, any responses gathered before your quota removal will remain in your data, and the rest of your action will fill with natural fallout according to your other targeting settings. However, you can use our respondent removal feature to remove those first respondents if needed.
- To edit or delete all quotas for an action, click into the details page and click Edit.
- In the pop-up, choose “Pause and Continue.” This will pause your action to allow you to make your changes.
- In the Audience page, you can adjust your quota percentages, pause specific quota groups, adjust quota flex tolerances, or use the trash bin icon to delete your quotas.
- Click “Save and Continue.”
Click into the Review page and click the purple “Resume Survey” button on the right.
Gender splits: You’re able to add, edit or remove a gender split on a live survey, so long as that survey doesn’t contain another quota. If you’d like to add a gender split to a live survey with a quota, you’d have to remove the quota first, then set up your desired gender split.

Demographics: You can add, edit or remove any demographic targeting on a live survey. Any responses gathered before your edit will remain in your data, so these changes will only apply to any new respondents. What cannot be edited
As mentioned, there are certain elements of a live action that cannot be edited, including survey question order, question text, answer option text, question settings, monadic concepts, piping logic, and the respondent-facing survey title and respondent-facing description. If you make a mistake and need to edit any of these elements, reach out to your CSM and they can assist for next steps.
