When programming a survey action, you have the ability to add in-step logic and piping logic as needed, and you can track your logic by using the survey preview feature.
In-step logic refers to the conditions that are used to determine which questions are asked to particular respondents within a survey. In-step logic can be used to ensure that respondents are asked only relevant questions based on their previous answers, which improves both respondent experience and data quality. You can think about in-step logic as a way to screen people either in or out of individual questions in your survey. It allows you to have some respondents see certain questions, while others might skip over those questions.
To add in-step logic to a question in your survey, use the Add Logic button and use OR, AND and NOT logic to determine who should be shown this question.
Once your in-step logic is added to a question, you’ll be able to see the logic operators, question(s) and/or answer(s) for your settings. For example, if there’s in-step logic on Q2 so that it’s shown to respondents who answered Q1 with the third answer option, Q1A3 would show as my in-step logic on Q2.
Note: There are a few scenarios where in-step logic will not be available. In-step logic is not available on Q1 of any survey, Q1 of the concept block in both standard monadic and global monadic surveys, MaxDiff questions within a MaxDiff survey, and the last screening question of any global survey or Suzy Connect survey.

Piping allows you to repeat or carry forward previously collected answers into future questions or answer choices, like we can see in the below image. Piping can help reduce the number of questions needed in a survey, making survey programming more efficient.
To add piping logic to a question in your survey, use the Insert From button on either the question text section or answer options section. A window will pop up, where you’ll be prompted to select the question you’d like to pipe text from.

Tracking your logic settings with survey preview
Before you launch your survey, you’re able to test and track your in-step and piping logic in the Review page by previewing your survey.
This will open a new window, where you can answer questions and navigate your survey just as a respondent would. As you’re using survey preview to test your logic, you can use the controls to the right to undo your last submitted answer or to restart the survey from the beginning.
