- What are some use cases for piping?
- Piping is commonly used in brand tracking studies, segmentations/typing tools, attitudes & usage studies, and consumer decision trees. While these are a few common examples, remember that piping is a very flexible feature and can be used in all types of market research studies!
- Why are grids limited to 10 rows/columns for piping?
- This is to maintain a good user experience for respondents who are taking surveys. Grids with more than 10 rows are fatiguing to respondents, so this limit also helps maintain data quality and reduce respondent drop off/spam.
- How do I avoid piping in ‘Other’ and ‘None of the above’ responses?
- What if I want to select what options get piped in from a previous question?
- What types of questions can I pipe from?
- NOTE: Piping can be from standalone actions, or actions that were asked within a survey!
- For piping into question text, you can pipe from: single select multiple choice questions
- For piping into question answers, you can pipe from: single select multiple choice questions and multiselect multiple choice questions
- What types of questions can I pipe to?
- NOTE: Piping into questions is only supported within screening surveys, standard surveys, and monadic surveys! The following denotes that question types, within a survey, that can be piped into
- For piping into question text, you can pipe into the following question types that are within a survey: multiple choice, rating, open end, scale grid, rank grid, and custom grid questions
- For piping into question answers, you can pipe into the following questions that are within a survey: multiple choice, scale grid rows, custom grid rows, and custom grid columns
- Can I pipe from another action/survey (as opposed to piping from the same survey)?
- Yes you can! In order to pipe from another action/survey, that survey has to be live, and the current action must be targeted to the other action/survey.
- Are respondents required to fill in “Other” in the source question when piping into answer choices?
- Yes, respondents are required to write in an answer when selecting ‘Other.’ In the case of piping, whatever they’ve written in will be piped into the subsequent question.
